Hi! I’m Christian Stokes!
Some of you may know me as Hank from my role in the hit horror movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the popular video game franchise of the same name. I have been acting professionally for over 3 decades, and I am convinced NONE of it would have happened without my exposure to Dungeons and Dragons when I was naught but a wee little halfling! 40 years ago, this game literally created the foundation for the acting career I have today!
As a professional dungeon master, my acting, voice and improv serve me well in bringing games to life, and making each session feel like a television episodic writing itself before the player’s very eyes!! The difference in storytelling between the mediums of filmmaking and table top is that we get to tell our own unique stories by the actions of our characters, not by direction of some pre-determined script! Each game lives its own life, with the story unfolding around YOU, and each interaction that your character makes within the game tells the story that you, the player, wants to tell. Together, Player and GM, we get to create fantastical worlds filled with mystery, danger, and excitement worthy of its own red carpet premier.
My game-style, as you might guess, is heavy into role play! I grew up reading Comic Books, Tolkien and Dragonlance. I love collaborating with players in telling epic tales where the character’s stories take precedence. My game of choice is Dungeons and Dragons, and I have played every edition since I began playing in 1983. I enjoy creating adventures in Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Golarion, Forgotten Realms, and Ravenloft. I also enjoy doing other interesting genres, like Fantasy Westerns, Sci-Fi, Super Heroes and Modern Fantasy games. I recently have begun playing the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game, and would look to gauge interest in some one-shots, or even a Marvel Super Heroes campaign.
I am so excited to be a GM here at the RPG Club, professionally playing the games I grew up loving! The TTRPG space has served me well over the years and I can’t wait to share that wonderment and joy of collaborative storytelling with all of you! I’ve been playing D&D with Christian, on and off, for over 20 years now. His vast skills as an actor and storyteller bring life and depth to each session! As a DM, he brings an intellect that embodies each session with experience and the lore of a life-long fantasy fan. He brings a compassion for his players that puts aside some DM’s ego-driven need to control the game and “win”. He genuinely loves seeing his players enjoy playing regardless of what imaginative and unexpected ideas they come up with. Every session with Christian at the helm is foreshadowed with eager anticipation, met with laughter, adventure and comraderie and followed by a bevy of great memories and stories to share with friends! I know I can’t wait for my next game with him!
