Your investigator group returns to the office of Harx & Boles, when your next case is thrown in your laps.  It would appear that the local gladiatorial arena known as Maybach’s Mechanicals had a mishap, and a couple of competing gladiators were killed.  Accidents do happen… but not here.

Automats aren’t programmed to kill.  Normally controlled by a master coin which is paired with each mechanical automat; this venue used as heightened training for gladiatorial troupes–Maybach’s is a mainstay of the city.  Yet, no evidence has led authorities to any hard conclusions. Two persons of interest have been interrogated by the Knights of the Spire, unfortunately, one succumbed to excessive wounds (you can assume torture was involved). The surviving suspect admits that midway through the event, his cogwork-bot stopped listening to his commands.  He pretended it was fine, that is… until he saw the gladiators being killed!

Your bosses Harx & Boles, run a mercenary investigative service; you are some of their skilled operatives and THE Arch Cardinal Rotwoll is personally requesting your assistance.  Cardinal Rottwol seems to be a fan of the venue and he’s known to dip outside normal religiously sanctioned channels to get results.

That’s where your group comes in…  Can you investigate the incident and determine for certain if it was a malfunction or truly murder?  “Let’s keep this as quiet as possible, shall we?” 

This is a DnD 5E One-Shot with quite a bit of combat and investigation for 4-6 characters of 5th level.

This game is set in the horror/steampunk Noctis campaign setting, which does introduce a slew of new feats, backgrounds, items, and subclasses for use as well.

If you have a pre-existing characters you wish to bring, I just need to approve any magic items (especially if homebrew’d).  If you are making a character specifically for this one-shot you will be able to add 2 uncommon magic items and 1 rare item OR 1 Very Rare magic item.  Finally, pre-generated characters will be available for use.
